Blessings + KaEskwela.Org

Ever since I was a little girl, I always make it a point to be grateful of whatever I have. To consider everything that comes my way as a blessing.

And on times that I feel down, I make it a point to look around me - - for me to see and be reminded of all the things that I have. Seeing that there are a lot more people out there less fortunate that I am, gives me no reason to feel down and depressed nor ungrateful of the world. This attitude has kept me happy in spite of life's challenges for I know that God is continuously showering me with blessings.

I don't have much...
As a matter of fact, today, what I earn together with my husband is just about enough for our family. But still I know that even if I think we don't have much, I have to help, even in my own small ways. Somehow there still must be a way for me to help the less fortunate. To share my blessings and be able to help improve the lives of others. I know I have to do this if I wish to see improvements in our country for our children's future.

So a couple of months back I decided to look for organizations where I can join. Then while I was searching, one of my Plurk friends introduced and invited me to join KaEskwela.org.

KaEskwela is a group of volunteers who help public school children in the Philippines, who believes that education is a foundation for building better lives and nations. The volunteers come from all walks of life aiming for one common goal - to do something on their own little ways to help improve education and make an impact in the lives of students and teachers.

Amongst all the organizations I found available, I chose KaEskwela. I love that they have options of ways to help. With them I can either donate in cash, donate in kind or volunteer my time. So when I don't have enough cash, I can opt to dig into our stuff to look for things like books, etc that I can donate for their fundraising activities or I can volunteer a part of my time too.

Unlike one of the organizations who emailed me to inform me that I will have to pay a specific amount of money to be able to help in their upcoming outreach program happening in Manila, when I emailed them back asking: if I can send myself to Manila, do I still need to pay them? How about for instances wherein I don't have the amount of money I am required to pay them, would I still be able to help? and answered me with a "NO", KaEskwela is a totally different thing... With them you'll feel their warmth and sincerity in welcoming you into the group to help in however ways you can. Neither are you expected to pay a specific amount of money to be able to help. I am so glad I joined them!

Now for the more exciting part, let me share and invite you as well to their 2nd fundraising activity. They will be selling fiction and non-fiction books for adults, comics, (singles, trade paperbacks, hardbound collections) and magazines. If you're interested, below are the details to the event:

What : KaEskwela's Books & Comics Sale (Round 2)
When : November 19 & 20, 2010 from 09:00am to 05:00pm
Where : 313-I Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, Quezon City - near Ateneo Gate 3, beside Teriyaki Boy.
This is a fundraising activity for KaEskwela's efforts to help the public school children in the Philippines, and this is my first time to join the group. I am really excited and looking forward to it!

So if you love reading books, have too many books or magazines that you no longer need that you may want to donate, or you simply have nothing to do on the 19th and 20th, do drop by. With this activity you're sure that every penny you spend is well spent. ☺

Anyway I have to go now, I still have to dig into my books cabinet... Tata!
