My 2nd Workshop: Clay Sculpting

February 26, 2011, Saturday at The Beadlady Craft Cafe and Art Studio in Cubao, I took my second workshop on clay crafting. What could've been just a 3-hour workshop from 1:00am to 4:00pm lasted until 6:00pm, yup - - lucky us! :))

This time I selected a workshop that focuses on sculpting - - particularly in creating one of a kind cake toppers for special occasions like weddings! This wasn't the only reason I chose to join this class though, I took this because it was conducted by non other than Jen Cruz of Purpleluggage. I know I will learn a lot of things from her too (just like my workshop with Rocky)!
The kind and talented lady behind Purpleluggage

Before I start discussing about the workshop, let me show you my previous mini-ME (chibi) projects. Just promise not to laugh too hard, ok? haha!

- This was my first ever attempt in creating mini-MEs. I was forced to try it when a friend asked me if I can try to make her a Marian (Maryknoll) student. My brother called this the "Halloween" girl. For him it looked more like a scary girl than a regular student. Must be the eyes, huh? I can't blame him... Those big black eyes seemed like they belonged to a girl who never sleeps. Oh! And did I tell you this doesn't look like a chibi at all because the girl is 4" tall, hahaha!

- Now these two are smaller than the first one I did. Eyes did improved... But it still looked funny, lol.

All of them together!

- I called them the BDO (Banco de Oro) girls because I made them to be given as gifts. Other than the head part, this project was a lot simpler compared to the 2 previous ones because I don't have to put clothes on them, which I really find hard to do! A lot of people said they're cute... and I agree, I should... Only I hated how their arms/hands turned out... Flat. Why did I make it that way?

Now on with the workshop... It started at 1:00pm with 6 students, I included...

It was fun having classmates around. You get to chat with them and see different techniques on how they go through dressing up their own mini-MEs but I also find it a little challenging at the same time because I was pressured - - pressured to come up with a cute project too, haha!

I can tell just by looking at their works and the little time they've spent working at their projects that they were all PROs! What took them just 3 hours took me 5! Lol! I think I was one of the reasons we ended the workshop almost 6:00pm.

Me and I'm sure the rest of my workshop mates learned a lot from the workshop...

- from molding a head, to filling up the hair part and placing details to the face
Ok, I know I didn't do well on the hair part - - but hey it's my first attempt! I can guarantee you, you'll see better in my next project because Jen taught me well on how to do this part!

- to correctly molding the body to produce a life like form...
(note: I didn't post the photos of how it really is supposed to look like, details etc - - if you'd like to find that out, better join one of her classes =P)
a guy's back
a girl's front, teehee!

- to dressing the mini-MEs up...
I was supposed to make a girl just like the rest of them but decided
to make a man instead because my project ended like my hubby look-a-like, haha!

- to finding some of the best alternative tools, to the more expensive ones, for clay sculpting like the ones below and where we can possibly get them:

I really feel that the workshop was made for someone like me. Since I am a visual learner, Jen made it a lot easy for me to come up with really good sculpting project for my first try by showing the step by step of sculpting clays to produce life-like figures.

What I also love about Jen is her very down to earth, approachable personality. Even if you know she is one of the greatest clay artists we have in the country - sculpting and caning, she remains very humble and kind.

She even taught me how to make a FLOWER!!!

I am so happy I joined this workshop! Super SUPER worth it!
Our pretty pretty projects ♥

If you want to take her classes or to simply check out her works, you may click her facebook page link found at the end of this post. Feel free to leave her a message, she does answer back every chance she can *wink

I give this workshop a 5 out of 5 stars.
